I cannot believe that a year ago we contacted Gladney and began our adoption journey. I remember the excitement we felt when we told our family we had decided to adopt a baby boy from Ethiopia. Feeling cheerful and full of anticipation that we were going to be parents. Then we began gathering our documents. Sigh. THAT was tough. Stressful because we had no control on the pace in which things were moving (and are moving). Anxiety while waiting for different documents. Grieve due to the slow downs in Ethiopian adoptions. Then relieved and hopeful when we were finally placed on the wait list. That is when the conversations changed from “we need to get that letter notarized…” to “I wonder what his personality will be like…”. Can anyone say emotional roller coaster for 2011?
Realistically, we don't see ourselves receiving a referral in 2012. Which gives us more time to grow closer to God and each other. And really just enjoy the year together as we keep falling more in love with one another.

Happy New Year! I wonder what 2012 has in store for us :).
Congratulations on hitting one year! You're one year closer to meeting your little man! :) Thank you so much for your comment on our blog. You can't wait to read our referral post and I CAN'T WAIT TO TYPE IT! :) :) It seems like it's never going to happen but I'm hopeful that 2012 is our year!
ReplyDeleteAwww time passes by so fast... And I am so glad that we got to spend new years with you guys it was awesome :)
ReplyDeleteHi Carmen,
ReplyDeleteI'm Jenn Blake, and we are the family that went on Waitlist just a few days before you, waiting for a little boy under 2. Since I am constantly stalking the FBI looking for referrals, I continue to read your blog and those of the other families that went on waitlist about the same time as we did when I get really discouraged about the timeline. When I sat down and did the math a few weeks ago and saw that our wait will most likely exceed 2 years, I just fell into despair for a few days. Fortunately for me, I had a peek at this post and was inspired and encouraged by your words of using this time to become closer to God and closer to each other. I know without doubt that God is using this time to transform our family, but it just so comforting to see others in our same shoes handling it all so gracefully so I wanted to thank you for helping turn my attitude around! Wishing you a blessed (but speedy) 2012! :)
